I was using a 34" curved LG monitor with my 2011 MBA and bought a new iMac last week. Although the iMac screen is much sharper I'm feeling confined by the real estate of a 27" monitor. In addition it's difficult to return to a flat monitor - in my head/eyes the far corners of the iMac are not where the should be (curved towards my face). Also if I'm honest, the sharpness of the LG is not that bad and I wonder if the 38" LG or Dell would be slightly sharper again.

Is anyone using a 38" as an external monitor with their iMac's? As I'm still inside my 14 day cooling off period, I may return the iMac for a VESA mound version so it can be wall mounted and the 34"/38" will be used as a main monitor.

I am using a Alienware 34 Curved Gaming Monitor: AW3418DW with my 2017 27" iMac. I like that the vertical viewing size exactly matches the vertical viewing size of the iMac, and the native text resolution matches the scaled text resolution of the iMac providing a continuous viewing surface to open several documents or windows side-by-side.

It's not a 38" as you are looking at ... but I couldn't give up that beautiful 5K monitor in the iMac. It is my primary display, and the curved monitor is for additional viewing surface.

I also have it connected to a cMacPro 5,1 12-core with a 980ti video card for more serious computing and Windows games.

I find it quite nice for both applications. I think the curved display works well for computer monitors since your head/eyes are at the radius of curvature focal point to minimize eyestrain when scanning from the center to the edges. This doesn't work with curved TV sets where the viewer is considerably beyond the focal point.
