I have an unused AppleTV HD (4th gen a1625 that came with a Siri remote) and was wondering if this would be suitable as a Tailscale exit not for 1 or 2 HD streams. The AppleTV HD will only be used as an exit node and nothing else.

I know it only has a 10/100 Ethernet connection but HD/1080 streams don't need a high transfer speed. WiFi may be even faster than Ethernet? Thoughts?

Thanks for reading.

I believe mine is the 2nd gen. I am not at home so, I can’t check.
No problem. I appreciate the informaiton.

I will try the AppleTV HD. If it's too slow, I will switch to a newer 4k AppleTV.

BTW, are you able to use your AppleTV for streaming and serving as an exit node at the same time

I have locations in two countries. Each has a Raspberry pi 4 running Tailscale as dedicated exit nodes. When I'm in country A I can select country B's exit node in my Apple TV (or Mac or whatever) and vice versa. The pi's are connected via ethernet to the routers. I have very fast and reliable VPN for my Apple TVs, Macs and iPads. I do still keep a VPN subscription for just in case but rarely use it. Tailscale is a wonderful product.

Even with a direct connection, I was not getting good throughput speed so I switched over to Wireguard in order to handle multiple 4k streams.
