Just recently, probabaly with the last beta release, I’ve encountered Safari crashing multiple times when playing videos on YouTube. But only when using my Apple Pencil to select a spot ahead of where the video is currently display, essentially jumping ahead with it. Or using the pencil to navigate through the video. Safari will crash but when I relaunch the same YouTube video page will re-load.

I’ve done it this way for a long time and haven’t had an issue previously. If I don’t use the pencil and just use my finger or even a normal stylus to navigate the video, or just let it play without interruption, there are no issues—no Safari crashes. I’ve only seen this occur on YouTube but could possibly happen as well on other sites with videos that I would use the pencil with. It seems something is happening when the pencil is interacting with the video. I do have Hover enabled for the pencil so that could another factor affecting this.

Out of curiosity since I mentioned the hover feature in my post I went to another video on YouTube after turning off hover and played around with jumping forward and other interactions and experienced no issues or crashes. So this may be related to the hover feature on videos, whether exclusive to YouTube or not I don’t know.
