Anyone using their iPhones to record guitar videos??

I got this crazy idea, but don't really know how to realise it:

How do I use an iPhone to record a 1080p video of me playing a guitar with the sound recorded being a guitar plugged directly into the iPhone?

What do I need for that? iRig? Or some other adapter? Quick googling tells me that iRig doesn't work with Camera.app. Is that so?

I think iRig is the way to go . . . I remember looking into that a while back . . it just acts like a normal corded mic, as far as the phone is concerned.
