Hi There,

Just wanted to see if there are any owners of the 5S out there who are not suffering compass/gyro miscalibration issues?

Also anyone here who has had luck going to an Apple Store and exchanging their miscalibrated 5S and has received another unit that is calibrated correctly?

Would like to get an idea if it is worth going in to the Apple store for an exchange in hope of a proper calibrated unit or just waiting for a while for this manufacturing issue with the motion sensor hardware to be resolved, or somehow via software update (unlikely though).

So if you have a lucky unit, please let us all know! If you have a faulty one, I believe there is a long thread already present in the forums to which you can add to if you wish.

Cheers!

I just got my 5S today and i put it side by side with my 5 and both showed the same degrees.

I'd wait a bit until more come out of the factory calibrated. There is a slight chance you may get a better one but I don't think apple has addressed the problem yet.

My 5S is perfect. Zero degrees on a flat surface.

How is possible someone has a working 5S ???

From what I know is a problem spread on the entire production line, and apple is investigating if is software or hardware related (or both).

My 5s is 0.7 off. My wife's iPhone 5 is 0.2. So pretty close to perfect. I used ihandy level for more accurate readings.

Strangely my 5S and 5C are both not calibrated

5S (My second one) is -4 on all flat surfaces and 5C is -1/-2 on all flat surfaces

I'm skeptical about ones that are 0 on both back and sides. I've heard of a couple that are one or the other but not both. I've been to several apple stores and never seen one perfect unlike the iphone 5 and 5c which are all almost 0.

I tried ihandy app, got 0.7 on it's back, moved phone, put back on same surface and now get 2.8 which is inline with the reading I get using the compass app.

Very confused!

zero level?
Not sure, my iphone 5 didn't show a zero level on any surface I tested it on either

----------

Just tested it with a friends, it seems to be pretty on point, they both showed -1 on the same surface.

Perfect here tested with my old iphone 5 all result the same.

I was at Apple Store yesterday and tested this on 2-3 iPhones on display. Same issue with all of those.

I along with others have tested multiple 5S's in various apple stores and have never seen one that is correct . Im still a little skeptical about people that claim theirs is perfect. I wonder if they truly tested on both the back and long edges and by rotating the phone etc.

I agree with you about the store phones: I tested some of those myself and all of them were off.
However, a friend of mine got a white 5S 16 gigs and I had a chance to test it 3 times in the period of 4 days in order to see if there was any value shift. I have to say that hers is perfect. It displays the exact same values as my 5! One side had a degree difference but that's about it.

I have absolutely no idea and no idea how I could tell if mine had this issue.

My phone is in 100% working order as far as I can tell. I would never use the compass or use my phone as a level so this issue meaningless to me.

If you go looking for an issue you will find one.

This is quite annoying.. was going to get one but will now wait until this is fixed. Since Apple will probably not say anything it'll be impossible to know when the batch is corrected. By that time, I might as well wait for the 6.
