I am trying to buy Verizon iphone 5 with month-to-month contract.

I am international student so I don't have SSN, which means I have to pay $400 deposit when I buy.

I tried to buy it online and even with month-to-month they still asked $400 deposit.

My question is, if I am on month-to-month contract, is there minimum time that I have to honor the contract? or can I just end the contract after first month?

Do I still have to wait 1 year to get back $400 deposit even if I am in month-to-month contract?

can you have a friend who has SSN just buy the phone, and for me to buy it from him?

And if I get the phone that way, can I just start month-to-month contract with verizon without paying deposit, or even use ATT go-phone?

If you're buying iPhone as device only (full price), don't need SSN to buy.

However, activating service still probably need SSN unless you're doing prepaid.

People who bought the iPhone 4 back in Feb 2011 are still on contract now.
