Bought mine in late 2006. Still usable for light web surfing, reading news sites and forums, email etc. playing video usually crashes it due to overheating issue. My spouse has redone the heat paste on heat sink twice now. Prob due for another application.

Anyone else out there have functioning Mbps of this vintage? What do you use it for?

I had that and the Logic Board failed last year. I then sold it on eBay.

I took it apart and cleaned out the fans, heat sink...

But it still got hot.

I then installed SMC Fan Control and set the minimum speed to 2700 (default is 2000). That helped prevent it from getting hot.

If I watched a YouTube video (which uses Flash plugin) it would want to get hotter, so I then cranked SMC up some more while watching the video.

It's really bad to let it get too hot. I used SMC proactively... cranking up the fans in advance... staying ahead of the heat.

Heck, I do this on my 2011 MBP.
