I’ve been just browsing the web and some social media, mine is getting hot making it a bit uncomfortable to hold; it may still be indexing, etc so hope it gets better. Using it naked at the moment.

Saw this under battery:

Was hot for several hours while transferring and stopped charging. Left it alone for an hour came back was fully charged and perfectly reasonable temps since then.

Mine can't even load iMessage without freezing.

The top was burning hot, the settings and messages app kept freezing to a blank screen until I had to look up how to force restart (volume +, -, then hold power). The battery was only at around 40%. I've never had an iPhone do that and I upgrade yearly..

Hoping it performs fine when it's cooled down and charged up to 100. The thing is I didn't even transfer phones, it was set up as new and I barely downloaded any apps. I'm guessing it was throttling due to syncing Messages and Photos.

Mine got a bit toasty during the first 10 minutes of setup/transfer, just under the camera bump, but cooled down after that and was fine through the rest of the transfer process and I haven’t noticed it getting even slightly warm using it since (had it just over 24 hours now).

Give it a week or so and then try again. They get hot when they're brand new.
I see this mentioned all the time (so I’m not calling you a liar lol) but with my 17PM, it didn’t get warm at all even while actively transferring and setting up; I’ve had it and been using it pretty much nonstop for about 6-7 hours tonight and it has stayed totally cool.

Of course I don’t have the Air but I’m here because I’m super interested in how it works for folks, I think it looks like an awesome new phone so I’m rooting for it to succeed!

Given how constrained iPhone Air is, I’m also curious how it performs on mid-to-heavy workloads for extended periods. My iPhone 16 Pro Max can get hot simply by doing video chatting for hours. Or game for hours. Can’t imagine how the situation would be for iPhone Air.

My Air got a bit hot while installing an OS update while charging, but nothing else during the setup process made it more than slightly warm.
