I'm in the market for a new 13" rMBP for school in the Fall and I came across an interesting offer from MacMall: http://www.macmall.com/p/Apple-MacBook-Pro/product~dpno~9418688~pdp.iadfdbh

$1429 for a 256GB SSD with a $50 rebate, while the 128GB model is $1419. $10 more for double the storage almost sounds too good to be true!

Is there something I'm missing here or did I just get lucky and stumble across what might be a really good deal?

Yeah that's a 2012 model, but there were really almost no changes made in the 'early 2013' models. It's a good deal.

Servicing these on a regular basis, I wouldn't buy the rev 1 (Mid 2012) MacBook Pro Retina... too many issues. Go rev 2 (Early 2013).

Right. I forgot to check the model number. Whoops.

IIRC there were some issues associated with the 2012 models that were (somewhat) resolved with the February refresh, right? If that's the case I'd rather get one of the 2013 models or wait for the Haswell models to come out.

On that note, is there anything to suggest that Haswell rMBPs might be released before September? As time goes on and as I browse the forums, an October release keeps looking more and more likely. No good for the college kids like me. :(

When people refer to problems regarding the 2012 rMBP's, are they more geared towards the 13"?

As you noted, there's the $50 mail-in rebate. I'm guessing that MacMall is betting that a lot of folks won't do the paperwork/hassle associated with rebates...

I don't recall many complaints with the 2012 13" models. As far as I know the whole LG/Samsung image retention thing was mostly on the 15" models.

The 2013 13" rMBP basically just got a 0.1Ghz CPU speed increase on the higher end models.
