Anyway to check the hard drive on a mac?

I know you could use the Apple hardware test cd but is there a universal program that will work with macs to check hard drives installed to make sure they are physically ok?

I use TechTools Pro 4. Does a lot more than just test your HD (ie RAM, display, etc). Very thorough and easy to run and read the results. Great program and worth the cost IMO.
