i have mywi on my iphone4 and was wondering if there is a way to do facetime without buying my3g app !

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

No. My3g is cheaper by far anyways, and both apps do very different things.

Facetime works over wifi only.
In order to trick it to work over 3G you have to install either My3G, 3G unrestrictor or facebreak.
Mywi is a totally different package that lets you use tethering thru USB or creating a wifi hotspot.

thanks ! is any of these options free ? or one cheaper then they other?

is one better then the other performance wise (considering facetime)

From what I read, you should be able to use FaceTime with MyWi by connecting to the hotspot you create with it. This used to work, but I'm not sure if it still does.

Yes, you will need another iphone running Mywi wifi tethering and then you can connect your other iphone to the wifi and do facetime calls. But you cannot do that with just 1 iphone, you will need the other to tether to.

i am actually doing this right now! lol

The cheapest one is Facebreak I believe at $1.49, thats what I use and does its job great.
There is no free option at the moment.

i have never heard of facebreak , if its as good as my3g (i am not sure what else its good for other then facetime) and u recommend it i will buy it

I have not had any problems with Tango and have been very happy. Like anything else running over 3G the quality will depend on your network speeds.

is tango service free? like calling between iphones?

I am able to initiate FaceTime calls over 3G by just turning on wifi tethering in MyWi. I don't think another phone or connecting to the hotspot is required, at least to initiate calls...

my3G is cheap and comes in very handy. I use it a LOT more than I ever thought I would before I bought it. Really helps you push the unlimited data plan :D

That's pretty cool.
But what about receiving facetime calls on 3G.
Unless you keep mywi running you won't get any.

It will work the same for FaceTime but My3G also allows other applications to think they're on wifi. Apps like YouTube, App Store, and Safari benefit from this "trick". For YouTube you can watch high quality streams, apps larger than 20 MB will still download over 3G from the App Store and having Safari enabled ensures you'll see embedded YouTube clips in high quality.

If all you want is FaceTime over 3G without the extras then FaceBreak is for you. The extra $2.50 for My3G buys you more functionality if you want that option.

Be sure to watch your data usage if you don't have one of the older unlimited plans. FaceTime is about 3 MB/min.
