I truly apologize as I know there have been tons of iMessages threads. I'd just really appreciate it if you guys took the time to read this, probably long post, and help me out.
So, I've been using iMessage on my iPhone since it came out and it has been flawless. There have been a few issues of me not getting messages, but nothing serious.
Until last week I never used iMessage on my Mac. I'm a student and work for a company where we can use or own devices, so I didn't want to be distracted by iMessage while working or at school.
Just a heads up, I did log in using my Apple ID on both devices and have it set to only receive iMessage to my phone number, so everything is synced with one account.
I recently purchased my first iPad and decided to setup iMessage on it and did the same with iMessages on my MBA. It worked well, but I noticed that if I deleted a conversation thread on my iPad or iPhone it wouldn't reflect on the other device. For example, delete a thread on iPhone and it'd still be on my iPad. Same thing with deleting individual messages on a device... it wouldn't sync over. Again, not a big deal.
I was also disappointed that all the conversations I had on iMessages from before I synced it with my iPad and Mac wouldn't show. Again no biggie.
My biggest issue is that if I send a reply or message on my iPhone or iPad it automatically syncs to all my devices. But, if I send a message on my Mac, it doesn't appear on my iPhone or iPad.
Now, here is something really strange that happened. Out of habit, I delete pictures and videos people send me via iMessage. I also delete a few individuals iMessages here and there. I was just on my MBA a few minutes ago and needed to message a classmate about something. I noticed that somehow all of our past iMessage conversations showed up, and the attachments (videos and pictures) were there. Granted, it was missing large parts of our conversation, so it wasn't the full history.
I'm really confused as to how iMessage works with Apple's server and why all of a sudden I'd see my past conversations with this person. This also only happened on my Mac. My iPad didn't show the past conversations, just messages I had sent and received after setting up iMessage on my iPad.
I loved the convenience of iMessage on all my devices, but I only have it turned on on my iPhone right now. I'm also tempted to just go back to standard SMS since my plan allows me to send and receive texts to anywhere in the world. I just hate how it compresses images and videos sent.
Sorry for the long question/rant.
