Since I always use credit card points to buy my Apple products, I usually buy them through Best Buy. The only problem with this is that I'm limited to the standard configuration machines. In the past, I have occasionally seen higher specced machines on their website. Is there any way to get them to order a higher specced machine or do I just have to wait and hope one shows up? I'm not looking for some exotic maxed out computer, I'd just like to get 32GB on the i9 model. I think this would be a popular option for other users as well.

that's not a cost effective way to use credit card points.
better to get a cash back card like 2% back or even the apple cash back card.

Best Buy does not carry BTO models, just the base models.
For the most part I think this is correct however, several months ago I was at BB and they had a maxed out 13" non TouchBar on display and available for in-store purchase..

I've seen that a couple of times online too. That's why I was wondering if they do occasionally order BTO machines.

As far as using credit card points effectively, I just received 50,000 points for a new Chase card I signed up for and I have a Sears Mastercard that currently offers 10% back on certain categories. Both of these cards offer 100% equal value for gift cards. In otherwords, a $50 gift card costs 5000 points. Plus for me, if I get cash back I feel like I should save it or pay bills. If I have a gift card, I can buy fun stuff without any guilt:)!
