anyway to restore iphone 3gs without updating to new software?

i sold my 3gs online and the buyer doesnt want 4.0 on it, i went to restore and it is making me update to 4.0 if i want to restore. anyway to get around this?

i have deleted everything off the phone, but i still would like a restore to make sure everything is gone...

Download an ispw of 3.x from a simple google search. Then, in iTunes, hold down shift while clicking the restore button, and select the ispw you downloaded from the file browser that comes up.
