Apapche is REALLY slow!

So I just got my new powerbook a few weeks ago and it is really great! I am doing web development work on it, and am using the built-in apache server. However it is REALLY slow, like it takes 20-30 seconds to load a page. Anyone know why this might be happening, it shouldn't be like this I'm sure and it makes getting work done very difficult.
