in order to save money i purchased an unopened copy of aperture 1.5 on ebay so that i could use the serial to upgrade to 2.0. i purchased the 1.5 disk but never installed it. i simply used to serial from the 1.5 to upgrade to 2. can i install the 1.5 on a different computer

Legally no: you have used the 1.5 license to upgrade to 2.0. Fortunately the Aperture license allows you to install on 2 computers as long as it is only for 1 persons use...
