Hi,
So, running Aperture 3.0.3 updated.
Snow Leopard, most recent version.
Aperture Library kept on external drive with all Masters there too
The library is around 650 GB
So why, all of a sudden, has Aperture decided that it can't see random files. The error message when trying to export versions is something along the lines of Aperture is unable to locate master files.
The re-locate masters option doesn't do anything, and just for fun nor does the re-locate referenced files option.
This seems to have happened to random files throughout my entire library, effectively bringing my busy workflow to a standstill. I can go in to the package contents and see the masters there but it's gonna take days (at best) to manually fix everything.
I'm in the process of importing all of the masters into a new library but I've got no idea what this is going to look like when it eventually settles.
Apple's fail here is to tell me that it's gonna cost £144 to open an 'incident' that they can't promise that they'll fix anyway!! I explained that I spend thousands every year on professional products from apple already, but they really might just have well have told me to eff off - not their problem.
Now, if I'd messed the whole thing up, I could perhaps understand this, but all of this has happened from when the software was updated to 3.0.3 - the most recent update. In the update notes there are direct references to these problems that I never used to have but now do.
Has anyone else had this happen? Have you fixed it? The usual Apple troubleshooting 'tips' don't make a shot of difference, especially when it's all pretty standard stuff that most people on the planet could work out for themselves. A kind of 'have you tried switching it off and then *on* again?' approach.
It's BS, and bad professional customer service for the company who 'just *care* that their customers are happy'.
My next option is to go back to Capture One Pro, but that's a ballache in itself just to get everything imported into a completely different library/software deal.
Still, watch this space if you're looking for a cheap copy of Aperture in the near future.
Sheesh.
