aperture help

Ok im having problems trying to view my master photo's along side my versions in aperture, i can view all my versions of the masters but not the masters them self. When i import photo's into aperture do i have to make a duplicate of the master becasue i have just been editing the master file as from what i know all editing in aperture is non destructive.
