I imported my iPhoto '11 library (~150GB) into Aperture 3, some pictures were missing and I had other concerns so I deleted the iPhoto import (deleted the iPhoto folder). Now my Aperture library went from ~80GB pre iPhoto import to ~105GB post iPhoto import deletion. Did I do something wrong? Anyone have any suggestions as to what would cause that?

I had something similar the other day....My Aperture Libary seemed way to big for the numbers of photos in there..

So I clicked Documents>Aputure Libary>Show package contents>Masters

I was looking around in there (the files structure is a bit wierd, but arrange by size can help)

I found loads of old photo's that should have been deleted....I think maybe if you delete projects it still keeps the photo's....???Anyway I managed to half my libary size after a good clear out.

.Another reason to switch to LR..buts its just getting the time and the will to learn it.

I checked in there and as far as I could tell all the folders in the Masters folder looked correct. My Masters folder was in the 70-80GB range, previews was around 20Gb and thumbnails was around 7GB (not by mac now so can't get exact numbers).

Maybe I'll try getting pre-iPhoto library back from Time Machine.

This has been discussed a bit before but a quick hint would be:

Press and hold the: opt+cmd key while clicking on Aperture. It will open up a dialog box Aperture Library First Aid) with three options: Repair Permissions, Repair Database, Rebuild Database. Click on the rebuild database. It will delete the current set of thumbnails and rebuild them. Nothing will be permanently deleted so there is no worries.
