Hi,

I'm a serious Aperture user, currently working on a PowerMac G5 Dual (2.3 GHz) with 3GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon 9650/256MB. As I'm not very satisfied with the performance of Aperture on this machine (this is probably mainly because of the poor GPU, but upgrading video is quite impossible...), I'm thinking about exchanging it for a new iMac (20inch, 2.4GHz with 3 or 4 GB of RAM).

Is this a worthy upgrade? Has anyone experience with similar setups? I heard that the GPU of the new iMac model is not the best. However, the Core2Duo should be fine. Other reasons for 'switching' are of course, less power consumption and noise (i hope, the PowerMac is quite loud: fans, power supply, chirping sounds etc.).

The glossy display does not bother me much as I would hook up my existing 20inch cinema display, having a dual monitor setup, which is nice with Aperture... Also thought about getting a refurbished iMac model (the previous one) - it should have a better GPU and display, however "only" 2.16 GHz.

Any comments?

Thanks,
salmacis
