My Aperture database has gone to 185 gigs. The program still loads ok but is there a way i could split up the database into years, 2001,2001 ect and then just load that database? Thanks for your time.

Yes, you can create multiple libraries depending on your needs. Just export the pictures, or duplicate the library and remove what doesn't fit that particular library.
