My 2012 MBA read and write speeds are a lot slower than expected.

I know the figures are up to xyz but the machine is fast enough but to boot takes same time as my 2010 sata2 SSD MacBook.

So please could you great folk here guide me thru reverting back to the old file system and high Sierra.

I will make a TM and will migrate stuff back, there is not a lot as only 64GB SSD.

I understand I will probably need format drive blank and start over which I'm fine with.

I hope it will get some speed back.
Write speed is almost half apples quoted speed and read down fair bit too.

As I understand it, High Sierra can only run on APFS. At least as long as you have an SSD. Even if you install on the older HFS+, it will just upgrade it during install.

APFS is not compatible with TM I read and although not yet set up I do use TM as backups.

I need read up more about reverting.

but think need a CCC or super duper backup first

It is just the time machine backup drive that can't be formatted in APFS. I do backup of 3 Macs with Time machine, all running macOS High Sierra.

I read online in few places that some older SSDs perfume better on HFS.

I think mine may be one and why the read and write speeds are lower.
of course other reason could be failing/old SSD but all tests say it fine.
