Apogee Duet 2 sound dropping out

I just got this great sounding interface (what a difference from the Digi 002) but soon started experiencing sound problems. Sporadically, the sound just drops out for short intervals of time and then comes back in all audio applications: GarageBand, YouTube, iTunes...

I have the 2.3.32 Maestro 2 version on my MacBook Pro where I'm running the 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

Ideas? Please share if you know what's good for me.
