App for 4k playback on MBP 2011?

Hi,

I am running 4k .MOV files using the GPlayer app on ipad mini retina with no stuttering or audio sync issues.

I am having issue with playback on my 2011 MBP 2.3 GHZ Core i5 with 16gb ram and samsung 830 ssd.

I tried VLC, Mplayer, Quicktime and they all stutter. I've converted the 4k video to Pro Res and it plays fine.

Just wondering why my iPad plays it fine and is there a way to play back on Mac.
