App for chatt with other people?

Hello!

I'm looking for an app where you can find people you can talk to. I know that Facebook has that option, I would prefer to avoid as much as possible.

I know there is an app that is something about it that I'm looking for

But they do not seem to want to update to iOS 7.

Someone who has something sensible suggestions? I would like to talk to people around the world, Europe, U.S., Asia etc. If they are also designed for the iPad, it is plus.
