I took an astronomy class in college about 15 years ago that included a segment on photography. From what I remember, you need a camera capable of looooooooong exposures and a tripod that can be moved X degrees to compensate for the rotation of the Earth (and in this case, the movement of the moon as well).

NightCap has the long exposure capability -- up to one second, anyway, so at least you won't need to bother with equatorial tracking. ;) The soon-to-be-released update also allows for multiple photos (burst mode), if you're familiar with image stacking (I only think I have some concept of how that really works, but I believe it increases signal to noise).

Finally, some type of telephoto apparatus would be advantageous. Yes, they do sell such things for the iPhone.

Regards,
Tom
