Hi,

I have an idea for an iPhone app but I don't know if it's doable.
I'm not a developer at all, so that's why I'm posting this here for you guys to see.

One thing I lack, is the possibility to send text messages with your Mac, using your iPhone ...

So, you open this app on your Mac (for you to develop as well haha), select a phone number in 'Contacts' and send them a text message.
Then your Mac connects to your iPhone (maybe over the LAN, maybe Bluetooth, maybe using a cable?) and uses your iPhone to send the text message.

So actually your iPhone is sending the message, but you're using your Mac to do so.
I know I would definitely use an app like this every day and it would save me LOADS of time.

Again, I don't know if this is possible to develop or not, or if there is even a general interest in such an app ...

Nice idea buddy, deffo somthing i would use everday to! such a simple idea but what a time saver it would be.

Now you just need a lovely person to make it :D
 
It's not possible for apps to send SMS messages. They can only open a new SMS with the telephone number pre-populated.
 
Not sure I understand the point of this app, since you're using the phone to send the SMS already -- why not just do it from the phone, and not the Mac? Is it just to save time writing the text message? (Which I don't understand either, since writing on the phone is about as fast as typing on my Mac for me).
 
Address Book used to have exactly this feature. Seems Apple removed it in 10.5. BluePhoneElite does it as well, but I don't think the iPhone supports such a bluetooth connection (I've never tried though).
 
Duh

Why don't you just use an instant messaging program? It's a no-brainer.
 
Wonder if its possible using a jailbreak app.

All you would need is ssh in and have a script which took the number and message.

Much faster SMS typing using your keyboard.
