(Hope this isn't a FAQ.)
I'm going on a vacation real soon and am trying to free up more space on my iPhone 4 for videos (to watch on the plane and bus rides, while waiting, etc.) Is there a good way/app to tell how much each particular app actually occupies on my iPhone? (I'm at 471 megs free on my "16 gig" iPhone 4.)
I've got >300 apps installed (occupying 5.36 gigs!) and will be unchecking most photo sync folders (in iTunes). I've already started pruning the playlists and podcasts I sync and am unchecking apps I won't need starting from the largest and will be doing more.
I'm not convinced that the the info via Ctrl-I (on an app) and via iPhone > Apps from iTunes is that accurate. My real goal is to get rid of the biggest space hogs that I won't need.
Apparently .ipa files are actually .zip files (you can rename them to zip and look inside). I've peeked inside a few and some have content that compresses well and some that doesn't.
From what I've heard, once you install apps onto your iPhone, they're uncompressed (.ipa unzipped?). Is there a large allocation unit size on the iPhone 4 that could account for a lot of wasted slack space?
Part of why I'm only at 471 megs is I've synced more videos on (that I plan to watch on the trip).
No, I don't wish to jailbreak.
