I have just got my new iPhone 14 Pro Max, updated to the latest OS 16.0.1, when I set it up as new once I am on the Home Screen it just won’t log into the App Store whatsoever… I just keep getting an error…

Could Not Sign In
Authentication Failed

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Servers are overloaded, most people on the east coast are activating right now. Wait awhile.
Is that the issue I am signed into iCloud etc no problem but the App Store I just can’t get into whatsoever

It happened to me too for about an hour; I was eventually able to get in.

I will just leave it for now and try again in a bit, tried restoring the phone and setting it back up but same issue

Same here. Looks like I’m signed in but no apps are downloading
I am signed into my iCloud and everything even iMessage is working fine, just can’t sign into the App Store or any of apples services (Apple music, TV etc)…

Occurring on my iPad too. So hopefully it’s served side. It’s weird there are not other reporting it at this point.

I’m on the latest software too.

Yeah it’s very strange checked apples system page and everything is coming up as available other than weather, plus have checked down detector and nothing reported there either…

It must be servers because I can’t even access My account through the music app on my Mac.

This launch has been awful this year

Ok. I turned off wifi and everything is working. I’m going to let apps to load over cell and then see if it will work over wifi.

Right tried downloading an app on my old iPhone over 4G and that downloaded no problem, I then removed the wifi network from my old phone and re added it and now it’s downloading over wifi again…

Did you do anything to rectify it…

I have even tried completely restoring my new phone and still it gives me an error when trying to log in to App Store or any of Apples media services (TV, Music etc)… can’t do much with my phone at the moment.

Not really. I just proceeded with the setup of my phone (restore from iCloud; application of iOS 16.0.1; etc.) and after those two things finished (took about an hour), I was able to access the App store and all manner of things. :)

So here is where I am with this.

I disconnected from Wi-Fi and was able to restore my phone. Once I reconnected to Wi-Fi, everything is working as normal.

My other devices, iPad mini and iPad M1 and Apple Watch would also not work over Wi-Fi. I forgot the Wi-Fi network and joined the devices to my hot spot in my phone. I signed out and in to my Apple account while on hot spot and everything seemed to work. I reconnected to Wi-Fi and all if these devices are working like they should.

I think it might be an issue with getting the initial authentication through my home isp. With that said what isps and routers are you guys using? I am using an Orbi system with Comcast/Xfinity. In the Chicago suburbs.

Right this is definitely some sort of wifi issue with the ISP’s, because for some reason on my old iPhone on WiFi if I go to settings > media and purchases > view account, it loaded for a few seconds then kicked me out…

So on my old iPhone I disconnected from wifi and connected to cellular done the same thing and my account info loaded up with no issues, I am now back on wifi and it’s loading up fine.

Here is the problem, I use an eSIM, and with my carrier I need to download the app on my new phone in order to get the eSIM transferred over… but without cellular this isn’t possible now on my new phone.

I’m in UK my ISP is EE.

My suspicion is that it’s something to do with this…

I think I have found a workaround, not perfect but none the less it works until Apple decide to fix this issue…

If for whatever reason you can’t log in to the App Store or download apps etc… connect to another device with cellular via personal hotspot, log into the App Store etc… then reconnect back to wifi, this solves the issue. If you have cellular already on the device just set up via cellular rather than wifi…

This is a very strange issue… but I have a feeling that it’s possible something on Apples servers is struggling to identify where your iPhone is logging in from if it’s on a wifi network therefore it’s blocking you from logging in altogether, it’s definitely got to be something on apples servers causing this issue as this has happened on all of my devices all at once.

Correction: Once your log in has timed out the issue returns unfortunately

A quick update… so after a looooong call with Apple support, they have referred my case to higher tech team and are going to get back to me this week.

I also spoke to my ISP (EE) and they can’t understand what is going on, it’s interesting though because I tried logging in from a family members wifi with zero issues, same as using cellular.

So other than changing my router, my ISP can’t really think of anything that would help.

Thanks for following up. I have been able to try other Wi-Fi so that is a very interesting fact. I spent about 2 hours today connecting my HomePods and AppleTVs through hot spots to reconnect. Tomorrow I will also try to apple.

So I talked with Apple and the only really interesting thing about our call was that they were unable to “share screen” with me while I was connected to my home wifI. They surmised that there must be a security setting on my modem that was preventing certain secure connections with Apple.

I did a hail Mary on my end and put my cable modem into bridge mode and tried to use my orbi router as a router (it was previously in bridge mode) and everything is working perfectly.

So at this point, I have to assume that it is a secure setting from my IP. My suggestions would euther try a new router from the ip or a similar set-up to me.

Right on my end I woke up this morning and randomly I seemed to be able to log into Apple services, this was completely random, I done nothing my end so whether Apple have fixed the issue I was having or something else has happened in the background I am not sure… strange one…

I’m wondering if it was an ip address issue and your home ip renewed? What I did would have forced a renewal.

Interestingly, I have been having double with some other services in my house for the last several weeks (not apple but stuff but Microsoft and Google). Everything works this morning.

It’s very strange as I tried unplugging my router for 20 minutes as suggested by my ISP which should have renewed my IP but that never worked, yet today all is good.

Unfortunately my ISP has issued a new router to me anyway, which I have to set up now as my old one will stop working after 30 days so that’s going to be a pain changing everything over.

But I suppose is best to change it anyway just in case there is an issue with my router which could place me in the same situation in the future.
