App Store banner notifications

Anyone know how the App Store banner notifications work, or whether they work reliably that is. All the options are enabled for App Store under Notification Center

Today I went into the App Store and noticed 4 apps were automatically updated today, at some point, however there was no notification in the notification center. In the past I've seen banner notifications to let me know a couple of apps were automatically updated.

I've migrated from Android where I'm used to seeing notifications to let me know xyz app(s) has been updated
