App store does not open

I am going to be having to work from home and my computer was approved. I am using Catalina 10.15.4 and have firewall installed (Avast). I still need to get an app from the app store in order to get full access. When i click on the app store, it does not respond. I have tried turning off my firewall and turning off my computer and turning it back on again. it still is not working. I can't take it to the Apple Store because they are closed. I end up having to force it to quit because it is not responding. Does anyone have any idea of what i can do? Thank you!
