I had three apps that kept updating over and over in an endless loop (Xcode, iMovie, and Microsoft One Drive). I followed dozens of suggestions all around the internet. I lost track of all the things I tried. I am not sure what fixed it, but these are the last steps I took before the problem quietly went away:
1. Disabled the spotlight service completely so it no longer indexed anything (months back).
2. Removed the index file from my hard drive (I forget the name and location because I did it months ago).
3. Manually uninstalled "iMovie" at the command prompt
4. Dropped "Xcode" in the trash bin, and emptied it.
The problem slipped away off into space somewhere! Yayyyyyyyyyyy!
I re-installed Xcode. I cannot re-install iMove. I do not even know what it is for other than what the name implies. I have quicktime and I have no use for making video.
Anyway, it is a mystery why the problem is now gone, and why it existed to start with. What if it comes back?
