Hello,

A few weeks ago, I had an external hard drive plugged in to my Mac. There were apps on this hard drive, which I'd backed up from another Mac. So these apps would have been in /Volumes/External/Backups/Apps.

Apparently, I had the App Store open on this Mac at some point, and it's picked up that there were apps in this folder. Somehow, /Volumes/External/Backups/Apps has become the place my Mac puts new apps when they're downloaded from the store, rather than /Applications.

The weird thing is, my Mac is doing this even when the external hard drive isn't plugged in. If it's not connected, it actually makes a folder called /Volumes/External on the internal hard drive and dumps the applications in /Volumes/External/Backups/Apps. If I delete the /Volumes/External folder, it just recreates it next time I download an app.

I've downloaded two apps from the store today, and both times I've had to move the app to /Applications folder and delete /Volumes/External.

Anyone have any idea how I can solve this madness? I'm running OS X 10.11.3.
