Apple is running a massive App Store promotion this week, discounting a total of 100 apps to $0.99. Apps are split into categories, such as "Smart Tools for Everyone," "Apps for Photography Lovers," "Apps for Kids," "Game Hits," "App Store Veterans," and more.

Many of the apps included in the sale are popular selections like Pixelmator, Facetune, Retromatic, and GoodReader. Games on sale span several genres and include titles like BADLAND, Shadowmatic, Goat Simulator, and Radiation Island. More than half of the apps on sale are games, and many are worth purchasing at just $0.99.

Separately, Apple is also celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, highlighting a wide range of various accessibility apps organized into categories like "Vision," "Hearing," "Speech, and More. This App Store section doesn't feature apps on sale, but it is a great way to find specialized apps.

Apple's App Store promotions typically last for a full week, from Thursday to Thursday, so the 100 apps sale should last until next Thursday when the App Store is updated again.

I grabbed Pixelmator and already owned a few.

Most of them don't appeal to me, but I still get excited like a little kid when there's an app sale! :D
I remember when I got my first iOS device, I always saved my iTunes credit until a holiday when there would likely be sales so I could be a "thrifty" shopper!

I use Soulver everyday, have it always open on my Mac and use it constantly on my iPhone. It's that one app I can't live without... Because I suck at math that much. I also like that you can comment stuff out and set variables.

Are the developers still getting their original cut, or are they also subsidizing Apple's promo?
Either way, I bet they're not forced to participate if they don't feel it will be profitable.

I believe how these promos normally work is that Apple offers the dev the opportunity to be spotlighted under the condition that they drop the price for the promo period. Each dev is free to say “nope” and leave their app at a higher price, but not get featured. However, Apple's promos are gold— even though each copy sold may be earning $0.70 instead of $2.80 (assuming a $4 app), the dev will see far more than 4X their regular sales that week. Most apps on the app store are far from the “market saturation point”— the level of sales where nearly all of the potential customers for that app have already bought it.

I have as yet to use any of the discounted or free apps that I acquired from these promotions over the years. I'm starting to learn and cease investigating what's available.

I had a habit of doing that as well. I've cut back on downloading apps over the years and now I just get maybe 5-10 a year. I'll pass on all of these apps.

I did the same on my Mac and I have several Mac apps not on my Mac that I never really had a use for because well, I have no idea how to even use them. They were promo apps and sounded cool.

Grabbed Pixelmator :D
Probably the best deal.
Also got Limbo, Badland and Rayman Run!

I grabbed Limbo when it was on sale on Steam 2 years ago, and then I tried launching it and discovered none of my computers have an adequate GPU. It's a freaking black and white 2D indie title - how poorly programmed is it that it needs a current GPU?

So sorry that you had trouble with it, I on the other hand got it for iPad Air 2 and it works flawlessly :p
I barely use my Macbook Pro for gaming. :)

And out of the hundreds of apps I am watching on AppShopper, not a single one updated that they were on sale. octothorpPRIMEDAY.

I was always curious about this. Even the free app of the week, or the free app from starbucks promotions, does apple pay the dev the full price? I've gotten $10 apps for free as a result and not all of them offer in-app purchases.

Worked for me in the UK this morning and still works for me now. Strange...
Maybe different iTunes versions? I am on 12.2.1.16. When I use the link it opens a 'New' page in the music part of iTunes with just some new music stuff. Doesn't take me to the app store.

Yep. Me too. Same behavior. U.S. store.
