Need help with choosing an activity tracking app.

Just switched from a Garmin Instinct to an AW SE (LTE) so all of my background is Garmin Connect.

My primary workout activities are:

Open water swimming
Pool swimming
Road biking
Stand up Paddle boarding
Kite foiling
Wing foiling
Walking/hiking

So far I’ve been using Strava except for open water swimming where I use AW swim function that does the water lock thingy. If I use the watch in a water activity without using the water lock feature will I get in trouble?

I’ve seen that Workout is very popular here. The kitefoiling crowd seems to favor Woo sports app on their AW even if they aren’t using the Woo gps tracker module.

Any suggestions for a one-app-fits-all water oriented person like myself?

(Liking the AW SE so far despite the wimpy battery life. Better than my Instinct for open water swim tracking. Only issue is my protective cover/bumper doesn’t like getting wet, so I take it off just for my swims.)

water lock basically just turns off the touch screen, so the water doesn't accidentally "touch" something.
it also plays a sound when you turn it off to try and blow any water that made it in there out of the speaker.

there are no little doors or anything that close to seal it better.

If you don't turn water lock on, you can do it after your done too, and then turn it back off to make it play the sound. This might not even be necessary, as long as sounds and siri sound OK, there's probably little to no water in the speaker. You also need to leave it active for a minute or 2 to get the sound. I know if immediately turn it off, no sound plays.

Ok, cool. I see that my AW has a generic “water sports” activity that I assume activates the water lock. Im thinking it’ll be necessary for my foiling activities and even my more aggressive SUP paddling since any hard crashes would likely result in an unwanted touch screen commands. Guessing that using Strava on my AW won’t do that.

Right now I set Strava to “walk” when i
Stand up paddle, and then relabel it when I upload to Strava on my iPhone, but in that case I’m not getting the watch wet.

Way more likely to crash and burn foiling!

there's no need to assume something activates the water lock.
if you start a workout, and the touch screen stops responding to your finger, and there's a light blue water drop at the top of your screen, then water lock is activated. I just confirmed that a water sports workout does activate water lock, you can start a workout anytime, if you cancel it within a minute or so, it won't log anything, so you can experiment and not mess up your totals.

you don't need a hard crash for touch screen commands, even a drop of water sitting on the screen can interact with the touch sensor. That said, I shower with my watch most of the time, almost never activate water lock, and don't have problems.
in fact a small drop being blown around on the screen is likely to touch more things, than water touching the entire screen at once, one looks like a finger scrolling around, the other looks like you putting your palm over the screen.

the only "damage" water lock is going to save you from is accidentally making a notification as read when you haven't when the water clicks on the notification and dismisses it, Or it could launch an app.
it would cause similar "damage" to closing your eyes, and randomly tapping on the screen. you could accidentally change settings, but the chances of randomly hitting the "correct" place on multiple screens to change things is pretty low.

you can also activate water lock manually any time you want.

Ok, that makes perfect sense. Now to home down on one app that does a decent job of covering my particular activities.
