The lack of 3D Touch on left side of phone bringing up app switch is driving me crazy. I’m back to double tapping home button.

After almost 2 yrs of using it I see the value of 3D Touch, why did you break it!!!

I completely agree, it makes my blood boil to be honest with you. I plan on upgrading to a new iPhone, but I won't be upgrading my 6s to iOS11 thats for sure! Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if apple has reserved this feature for the new iPhones...

I never used it and never understood why it was there to begin with. Double tapping hhome button has always seemed much more convenient to me.

Well, if you never used it I suppose it would be hard to understand why it is so useful

One of the reasons people find it useful and feel upset to see it removed is because it speeds up multitasking significantly vs double pressing home button. It enhances the user experience when moving between apps and I agree with those who say it feels like a downgrade. Because from that perspective, it is.

But apple removed it for some reason. They touted it on stage two years ago. I wonder if there was a reason as to how 3D touch is implemented in the new OLED panels and that lead to removing it entirely for feature parity. Perhaps it was not possible to do on OLED panels this year and apple will be using a "pseudo" software driven 3D touch for the new iPhone akin to how the S8 emulates it.

I’m not arguing with your use of it. No need to be defensive nor pedantic. I tried to use it, but it alsways seemed forced and awkward. It always took multiple attempts and was faster for me to use the home button. YMMV.

Interesting thoughts on pseudo-3D touch with OLED. Hadn’t considered that.

Your initial post didn't say you used it prior; it said you never used it. I wasn't being defensive or intending to be pedantic I was just replying to that post and that comment of not understanding why people would use it. If one hasn't used it, then how could one know the value it brings? That is all. It wasn't my intention to offend, my apologies.

Many users who don't use the feature have claimed the same as you did in your second post, and I felt similarly at one point as well. However with enough tries like anything one gets the muscle memory to use it and once it is used to effect, then it becomes understandable as to 1) why apple initially implemented it and 2) why some people are upset with its removal in iOS 11

The other possibility is apple has found another solution for multitasking that will negate the usefulness or quickness of 3D touch app switching, but my hunch is it might be a result of moving to oled tech. For feature parity sake, apple decided to remove it. Will be interesting to learn the reason why, if we ever do.

Well, a simple force swipe to go back to the last app is infinitely faster than double pressing Home, waiting for the animation to finish and tapping the last app in app switcher. Another benefit: it didnt make any sound compared to loud button clicking. Nice at night.

The fake home button haptic engine is loud to you? (Assuming you’re speaking of the 7 or 7S). Interesting.

FWIW, that is adjustable by the way.

Again, different strokes for different folks.

I'm sure they will replace it with something else for only iPhone 8 or all devices when it releases. I've tried using but it never felt natural with having to press hard and then drag. Another thing for me with 7+ is that I can't reach it with hand without feeling like I'll drop the phone.

I would like a hard press on the home button to open multitasking (or something else). So while you are pressing you will slowly see the opened app shrink into the multitasking view.

Well, it feels awkward to me when I hear the loud click of the home button. When I got used to the 3D Touch gesture and now I have to click the home button, it feels like I’m back in the stone age.

I use my phone one handed lots and found it awkward to move my thumb over and do the force touch multitask on my 7plus. Also I could never get it to work reliably when I did try to use.

It works 100% for me. Try to set 3D Touch sensitivity to the highest setting.

After installing iOS 11 beta I too miss the 3D touch multitasking option, hopefully Apple implement something similar or even give us an option of having it on or off....it does seem bizarre why they'd just remove it.
[doublepost=1504104492][/doublepost]Just found a possible workaround; Settings > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch (3D Touch Action = Multitasking)

This is not ideal but better than nothing for now.

My previous iphones (3g, 4, 4s, 5s) all suffered from the home button dying and had to replace it at least once for each. The 6s with the 3d touch was the first time i was able to not use home button as much and so far no issues with it.

I'm not used to apple taking things away and if they have a new way for app switching it definitely hasn't shown up yet!

Definitely not for iOS 11.0. Maybe a bit later, but I very much doubt it. Then again, Apple flip flopped many times on things like this (like giving users an option to use the switch on iPads to either lock or mute).
