I have a mass of MP3s that I'd like to go through and sort out. I would love to find an app that can tell me the bit rate of the file and perhaps show additional information. I remember SoundApp could do this under their "Get Info" feature. Any pointers most appreciated!

Thanks,
Michael

If I click "get info" on any of my thousands of mp3's, it tells me the bitrate. Why would you need an app for this?

You could add them all into iTunes, set up a smart playlist that filters by 'date added', and then sort by bitrate by adding that option to the View Options. Would take a minute or so, depending on how many there are.

As far as I can tell, there is no field in "Get Info" that shows the bit rate. It only shows the size of the file, but not the bit rate the MP3 was encoded at. Perhaps I'm missing some view option, but as far as I can see, the "Get Info" doesn't provide that information.

Under "get info," it shows the bitrate in the "summary" tab.

I just tried this and there is no summary tab in the "get info" window. The only tabs are Spotlight Comments, General, More Info, Name & Extension, Opens With, Preview, and Ownership & Permissions. The bit rate doesn't appear in any of these fields. I'm running OSX 10.4.10 - is the summary tab a feature of a later version? Help!

Thanks,
Michael

non-Tunes app for finding bit rate

in itunes, you mean. not finder.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the finder. I'm trying to find an app to do this without having to import everything into iTunes. Doing so would add several steps just to get that one bit of information. There must be some easy to use MP3 app out there.

oops, sorry....I should have mentioned I did this under itunes.

Here I was thinking that I had a "special" version of OSX. :D

OS X finder sucks for this kind of thing, whereas windows explorer, with the audioshell extension, rocks.
