I'm new to iOS as of a few weeks ago when I got my iPhone 4 and I'm a little surprised to see there's no way to assign ringtones to contact groups, for example on my last phone I had separate ringtones for family, friends, work contacts etc. With iPhone, you can change ringtones for your contacts, but you have to do it on a per-contact basis - needless to say this is a serious pain when you have 1,000+ contacts.

I've searched the iTunes App Store and some of the 3rd party jailbreak app sites to no avail, does anyone know an app that lets you assign ringtones to various contact groups?

No AppStore app can do that because Apple has not added the feature to the set developers can use.
Sorry :(
