Tittle says it all...

Even though the file extension says .mp3, this song won't play in my iPod Touch. I got a "Get info" on the file and found out that it is a MPEG-1 audio file type, unlike all other of my songs that are mp3's.

What I need is an application that will open this file, convert it and let me save it as an mp3. QT will not even open this file.

TIA

An mp3 is an MPEG-1 file. MP3 stands for MPEG-1, layer 3.

There's something else going on with the file. Try opening it with VLC.

Thanks for clearing things out.

Downloaded VLC and the file plays fine in it (it also plays fine in iTunes), but when try to upload it to my iPod it says that it's not compatible with this iPod. If I try to open it in QT a message pops up stating "The movie could not be opened. This file is not a movie type...".

VLC lets me save it (stream) in several formats....what should I use?

TIA

That's odd that it will play in iTunes but not in QuickTime or on your iPod. Is it a video file with an improper extension, or is it just an audio file?

Try saving it as an mp3 again in VLC.

I've tried saving it as an mp3 in VLC (which has further options within the mp3 format (Encapsulate Format): mpeg-ps, mpeg-ts, mpeg-1, OGG, Raw and ASF) but it still doesn't work.

It's just an audio file. Maybe it got corrupted when downloading?
