I'd like to make a "Work/Study" space where I can't open anything but MS Office applications, Acrobat, and Firefox, and I'm not able to browse to facebook, MacRumors, etc. I just haven't been able to focus on studying recently because I keep getting distracted by stuff online, and I think something like this might help. :) Anyone know of anything that can help?

You can assign apps to certain spaces, so when they open, they open in a particular space. However, that still won't prevent you from launching other apps or visiting other spaces.

Even if you succeed, those distractions are just a key and a click away. I don't think there's a software substitute for self-discipline.

I agree. I'm looking for something that will help, not a substitute. ;) "Out of sight, out of mind" is what I'm going for.
