App Update question

If i download the update on itunes, is it not supposed to show up in the app store on my phone? I ask because while in itunes i saw i had an app update so i downloaded it then when i went into app store on my phone it said all apps were up to date. does this sound right or is it a bug?

Re-install iTunes, that's what I did.
