Hey guys,

A while ago, I made a post in the iOS 17 forum regarding glitchy app updates but since I still have this issue in iOS 18, I make this new post. I'll briefly explain the issues. Let's say, I go into the updates section and pull down to refresh and 1 update is available. Then I click on "Update".
  • Issue #1: Visual oddities:
    • Once the app is updated, it says "Open" next to it but the update still stays in the updates section for about 5 seconds and only then it moves down to the "Recently updated" section.
    • Sometimes, it also moves to the bottom of the "Recently updated" section and moves to the top after a few seconds. Sometimes, it also stays at the bottom of the list.
    • Sometimes, it also stays in the list of available updates (despite the "Open" button).
  • Issue #2: Performance issues:
    • Most app updates make my iPhone very hot. For example, if I make 3 app updates, the back of the phone gets really hot and it drains the battery by 2-3 percent for these few app updates.
I already tried the following things to fix these issues but they only fix them temporarily, until they come back after a few updates / days:
  • Quit the App Store app and open it again.
  • Reboot my phone.
  • Sign out of the App Store and back in.
Additional info:
  • I'm using an iPhone 14 Pro Max (always with latest iOS updates installed).
  • These issues started suddenly some time during iOS 17.
Is anyone else also having these issues and knows a fix? Thanks a lot in advance!

I’ve experienced most of your Issue #1 problems, alongside pretty serious sluggishness with everything (loading pages and initiating downloads) in the App Store. I know of no fixes. It never occurred to me to try rebooting, because it seems to me to be a problem on the server side, but I will try that the next time it happens.

Thanks for your answer! In my experience, simply quitting the App Store app and re-launching it should be enough to temporarily solve the issue. I hope it works for you as well!
I've seen some of the issues you described in #1 but never anything like you've experienced in #2..
Thanks for your answer. I hope that the issues will get fixed eventually!
