App with photo booth effects for other devices

I need to use the effect in photo booth that removes the background and replaces it with something else.
I have a new iMac so it has an iSight camera and photo booth, but I need to do this a bit further away so I thought I would see if photo booth would let me use a different camcorder plugged in to my mac through fire wire but it wouldn't let me change the input source.
Does anyone know a way to make photo booth recognize my camcorder or a free program that removes the background and puts something else in just like photo booth except through a external camcorder?
