I have a 24" ACD on my hands that I personally love. It's an all around excellent piece. I'm fully aware of the flickering and blank screen issues many people have suffered with this and other Apple displays. However, I find my issue is slightly different and I have gone through every caliber of troubleshooting imaginable before posting this.
A few weeks ago after unplugging my 13" MacBook Pro (late 2012, 2.9 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, Samsung 840 Pro SSD, the display would not revert from its black screen. The USB ports still work, as does the display audio, but no picture. The weird thing is that once plugged into the Thunderbolt port, the monitor comes on for split second. It does indeed flicker. And then once again goes completely black. I was really bummed. After troubleshooting for two days it looked like my display had taken a total dump. Then suddenly, I got an idea to disable an app called Flux that tints the monitor in accordance to the time of day. And like magic, the display came back to life on reboot! Again, this was a few weeks ago.
Today when approaching my rack (I have a studio setup), I accidentally turned off my Monster power conditioner. Everything of course shut off. Upon turning it back on, I realized my ACD was back to flickering for a moment once plugged in and going black. Thus has been the story all day.
Here's what I tried:
-Reboot
-Different sequences of unplugging and rebooting
-PRAM/NVRAM reset
-SMC reset
-Disabling startup apps
-Deleting the power management .plist file in Library/Preferences/System Management folder, unplugging, replugging, rebooting and then plugging in the monitor
-Leaving the ACD unplugged for 15 minutes
-Using compressed air on connector cables and my MacBooks ports
-Swapping power cables for the ACD
-Deleting startup items in safe mode
What I just can't accept is that the ACD's Logicboard is fried. I just don't see how thats possible. Once your logicboards kicks the bucket, it's done. It doesn't sort of kind of show life. It definitely doesn't revive itself and work for three additional weeks...or does it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
