Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display with my 2015 15" MacBook Pro

Hi guys,
This is my first post here and I'm looking to diagnose the problem with my display. I did not find anything on the internet exactly like mine, so here it goes:
When I connect my my MacBook Pro 2015 to my 27 Thunderbolt Display, the MagSafe charges the mac, but displays no video. It seems to try to connect and the Macbook that get's slows and flickers several times changing resolution almost to the point of crashing, but no video.
Please help. It's a good monitor and I don't want to trash it.

I believe the Thunderbolt port on the display supports video in. The cheapest and next troubleshooting step I can think of would be to buy a Thunderbolt cable, and see if that helps the connection.
