Hi there,

I want to give my wife my old 30" Cinema display for use on her work laptop. The Windows based laptop is a HP Z Book Studio G3 with a NVIDIA Quadro M1000M 4GB. Native resolution is 1920 x 1080 but the specs say it will support 5120 X 2880. The dock she is using has two display port sockets, two HDMI and one USB-C / TB3.

We tried using the display this afternoon with a DVI-D to Displayport adapter and could only get 1280x800 which can happen if using single link DVI. Before I return it and get a DVI-I to DisplayPort adapter I am wondering if it might not be better to try DVI-D ( or DVI-I ) to HDMI? I did find this article so it made me wonder about DVI-D vs DVI-I.

I'd sell the monitor and get her a dedicated one but these 30" ACD's fetch hardly anything these days and are always risky to ship.

Any suggestions in getting this to work properly?....she could sure use a boost in screen space.

Nice. I keep looking for a solution to use my work laptop which has only VGA & HDMI ports.

HDMI female port on Toshiba Tecra A50 —> ?? —> ACD’s dual link DVI male cable end.
