Apple 3M Thunderbolt-4 Cable: Any Release Hints?

Apple's online store shows the 3 meter cable with a "Coming Soon" status. Do we have any other hints on that one besides "Soon(tm)"? I have a specific need for a longer Tbolt cable, and I'd like to avoid the $360 15-foot optical one if I can.

I've been following the 3m cable as well. I'm worried that it may not get released "soon". It was previously mentioned on the apple site when the mac pro was released in 2019, but then mysteriously disappeared. No one at apple support knows anything either.

It's a great price considering anything longer is like four hundred dollars. I bit the bullet and bought a Corning optical cable though sigh

I wonder if it disappeared because Apple knew they were pivoting to Tbolt-4 in the coming months and just decided to wait?

My suspicion is that, according to the thunderbolt 4 docs released by Intel saying that longer cables would come out June of this year, they're under some sort of agreement to not release until then

Oh interesting, so you don’t expect them to be released until June.

Check out the thunderbolt 4 press deck, it was planned but I'm not sure what's going on with that, to be fair TB4 was only supposed to originally support up to 2m cables in the spec, so I wonder if there are timing issues with 3m copper cables. https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-conte...ntel-thunderbolt4-announcement-press-deck.pdf

I can guarantee you that the very day after I receive the Corning cable, Apple will release their 3M copper one. That's just how my luck works. ;-)

I ended up buying a corning cable, I'm using it right now with the Apple Studio Display, it works great!

I've no doubt it works as intended. But at $360 for a 15-footer... that's a bit much. I understand the tech involved, but that still doesn't ease the, "HOLY CRAP!!" response.

haha yeah, they're nearly all the same price, 15ft,30ft,50ft,164ft, the length isn't the expensive part, the usb c ends are hand assembled and have to be within a few micrometers of tolerance.

I have it. Works wonderfully. And it didn't trigger Apple to release the 3M cable, which is a complete surprise.
