Apple today released Mac Pro Audio Update 1.1, addressing a specific audio issue being experienced by users of the company's "Early 2009" Mac Pro models under Mac OS X 10.6.3.
This update addresses an audio anomaly that some customers may hear coming from inside their Mac Pro computer when using FireWire audio devices. This update is for Mac Pro (Early 2009) computers running Mac OS X v10.6.3.
The update weighs in at 516 KB and appears to address an issue well-documented in our forums and in Apple's support discussions. The user reports are clear, however, that the issue cropped up under Mac OS X 10.6.2 after users applied Mac Pro Audio Update 1.0, released in February, to address heat and performance issues in their Mac Pros while processing audio. Despite the documentation, today's update from Apple is limited to systems running Mac OS X 10.6.3, so users should check Software Update to ensure their systems are up-to-date.

meh

Wow, so they can actually play an audio file now?!! Still wouldn't buy one though. They don't seriously expect me to buy last years cpu's with last years gpu's for last years prices, now do they?

Wow, isn't that something? Now just release the new machines already, damn it!

¿Any useful feedback on whether it solves the problem? Anyone tried it yet...? Anyone?

I don't have my FWI at the moment...

cheers!

Just updated my MacPro at work and it works perfect!!! :D

Glad to see this fix even though I've been using a firewire audio interface and never had the problem.

Now where are those new machines? The current generation has been out of date for months (and the quad was a bad deal from the day it shipped!).

2 months I waited for new news about last years computer? This is a buyers guide giving me no new information about the new mac pros. WHEN WILL THEY BE RELEASED?

To be fair, it was just reported that intel is having trouble getting the new chips made in any kind of real quantity and the companies that are shipping machines with them are in short supply with long delays. Assuming that's true then apple can't really use the chips yet - if they did they'd be offering a machine but with none in stock and long backorder times, and people would be complaining about that instead.

Have you forgotten the wait from the 2006 Mac Pro to the 2008 model? This is nothing new. :(

I would hope he doesn't remember that wait...considering that the MP was updated to Octo for the first time on April 4, 2007.

Right now we're about tied with the longest gap between MP updates since they went intel, soon to be the longest. Although this time around it does look like it's more Intel's fault than Apple's - if they can't get the chips, they can't update the machines.
