Macworld reports that Apple has added listings of showtimes to its movie trailer site, offering a slick HTML5 interface that utilizes geo-location to find theaters in your area.
When you visit the page, your Web browser will ask to use your current location, after which it will display a small Google Map highlighting nearby theaters (you can also enter your own ZIP code or city and state).

Clicking on any of the theaters in the map (or on their entry in the list below the map) will show you a thumbnail grid of the posters for all the films playing at that location. You can even flip through multiple pages of theaters if the one you're looking for didn't show up in the top five. Hovering your cursor over any of the posters tells you when the next showing at that theater is.
Alternatively, clicking through the individual movies will bring up listings of theaters in the user's vicinity that are showing the film, along with showtimes highlighting showings with reduced pricing. Users can also click through to purchase tickets at participating theaters.

I know Apple has trailers but it was hard to find, most of time I just go to Rotten Tomato. This new webpage is excellent, Apple needs to advertise more. It's just so much better then a lot of movie websites. It also works on iPhone, it's a little bit small but it works.

Very nice! I do tend to watch some trailers through Front Row, sometimes, and I've been on the site once or twice, but I might pay another visit. Probably US only though :(

Is anyone else having problems with the trailers page loading entirely in safari for mac?

Back to the future

Ah, I remember being a little bit excited about looking up movie times when Apple announced this feature for their Sherlock app back in good old Mac OS X 10.2. Fun times :p

Alas that feature never made it to the UK.

Still, nice to see someone at Apple still plodding away at this.

The Apple TV has a HD movie trailers category. It's one of the coolest things about it. The new one appears to have it too.

Also, you can view the Movie trailers on any Mac by going to the Frontrow app (click Command+Esc and wait a couple seconds).

Needs ratings

The only thing missing is ratings and reviews of the movies. Since aTV has a connection to rotten tomatoes, I assume this is coming.

This has always been an awesome site to get HD trailers that download very quickly. It also carries them far in advance of when they release in theaters.

I notices that Freakonomics is available via iTunes on Sept 3 and theaters Oct 1. That's interesting...

Works great and the design is perfect. Works great and is identical in Safari, Opera, Chrome and Firefox. I am very excited about this because we're always needing this. Google's done a good job for us up until now, but now there is no comparison. This is so much better.

I wonder if they will add this to front row. I use that waaay more than I use the website.

I try to enter G9X2N3 in the showtimes page but clicking the button doesn't do anything. No loading, no error, nothing.

A much nicer ticketing interface than other sites.
However, I don't like watching trailers on their site because there's no way to watch in full screen. The HD version is available to download, but not watch.
So, I use the Apple site to find out about a movie, then go to YouTube to watch the HD trailer in fullscreen.

Well, I don't know how they are finding your location - because it is not using IP addresses. I was using a VPN with an IP in the States and it found my 'real' location (not Stateside) straight away. A little bit disconcerting. Also annoying as I couldn't try the showtime functionality out (just for ***** & giggles).

Doesn't seem to do full screen previews even when you click 'Large', plus it's got hardly any locations so it's really only newsworthy for some people on Macrumors.

To be honest I was hoping it would have come with more changes to the trailer site and integrated the show times and hopefully ticket purchase all seamlessly. It's actually pretty clunky and the purchase ends up routing you to the theater's site anyway. I find Flixter from the iPhone to be a far better experience. Of course I'm not able to watch HD trailers that way (it does have normal trailers), but for the few times I actually find that necessary I can use the Apple trailers site if I'm at home.

To Be Fair

I've been ragging on Apple the last few days about the devolution of the iPod Nano and Ping.....but this feature looks very useful. So good job Apple!!!

I try to enter G9X2N3 in the showtimes page but clicking the button doesn't do anything. No loading, no error, nothing.

Two things:

1) If you'll notice, it's asking for permission to use your current location. If you answer that, the results will be displayed

2) Looks like you're trying to input a Canadian postal code (as I did). The results are U.S. only.

Hopefully that will change. Not holding my breath though.

Showtimes

This looks very nice. I like the organization and it minimizes the unnecessary information seen on other showtimes websites.
