A little later than expected, Apple has added the following 2013 and 2014 models of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro to its vintage and obsolete products list:

  • MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013)
  • MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)
  • MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014)
  • MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2014)
Also today, Apple added the iPod touch (5th generation) to its vintage products, defined as those that have not been manufactured for more than five but less than seven years. Devices on the list are no longer be eligible for service at a Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Providers.

The fifth-generation iPod touch was released on October 11, 2012, with more color options than earlier models, offering silver, pink, yellow, blue, and PRODUCT(RED). The iPod touch (5th generation) was officially discontinued by Apple on July 15, 2015, with the release of its successor, the iPod touch (6th generation).

An internal memo obtained by MacRumors at the beginning of last month revealed Apple's plans to obsolete ?the above Mac products by the end of April.

So if I understand this correctly, vintage does not mean that they won't get the next OS update coming in fall? Vintage means that they can still get software support and obtain certain parts. However, obsolete products are a different matter.

My 2013 MBA continues to be my only non-iOS computer since the day I got it. It still serves me very well for my basic needs. I truly hope it continues to get macOS updates for as long as possible. I know at some point within the next few years it’ll finally kick the bucket and I’ll need to decide if I can actually go 100% iOS, get a new MBA, or possibly even go windows which I haven’t had since my college days in 2007

Vintage or obsolete status is only relevant for hardware parts and service, OS and software is not part of it. OS and software depends on driver and hardware abilities.

Why is the MBP 13" early 2013 and 13" early 2014 obsolete but not the 13" late 2013?
Do you mean 13” mid 2014, not early? For why only Apple could tell, maybe incorrect information on the page or that they kept selling them for longer than the mid 2014 model.

I can’t believe the mid 2012 non-retina mbp is not on this list. If it gets the new Mac OS this fall I’ll be shocked.

It's not on the list because the list is only additions. The model was already vintage before.

(edit) Right, the MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) isn't vintage yet.

I don’t see it. Only the retina version.

It's not on the list because it's neither vintage nor obsolete, Apple sold that MBP until October 2016, so still (minimum) a year to go before it's on the list
